Providence, RI – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse today released the following statement on the agreement to pause hostilities between Israel and Hamas for four days and allow for the release of 50 hostages:
“I will be very glad to see the women and children who have been through an unimaginable nightmare reunited with their families. An extended pause in hostilities between Israel and Hamas is much needed, as it will allow humanitarian aid to get to innocent Palestinian civilians who are in a dire situation. I will continue to support the Biden administration’s efforts to secure the safe return of the remaining hostages, obtain additional humanitarian relief for Palestinians and aid for Israel, and protect the lives of innocent civilians. I remain committed to advocating steps toward securing lasting peace in the region, including a two-state solution, through diplomacy.”
