Whitehouse Thanks Local Veterans at 11th Annual Breakfast

Breakfast and Resource Fair draws hundreds of veterans and their families

Pawtucket, RI – More than two hundred military veterans and their family members from across Rhode Island this morning sat down with U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse for conversation over eggs and bacon at his eleventh annual veterans breakfast and resource fair.  The event was held at the Portuguese Social Club in Pawtucket.

“I look forward to hosting this breakfast and resource fair for veterans and their families every year,” said Whitehouse.  “It’s a small gesture to express gratitude to the brave Rhode Islanders who have made enormous contributions to our nation.  It is our sacred duty to make sure these men and women who have sacrificed so much can find good jobs, high-quality health care, and a place to call home.”

In March, the Senate passed Whitehouse’s legislation to permanently extend a one-year grace period protecting servicemembers leaving active duty from foreclosure.

Representatives of more than a dozen government agencies and organizations were on hand to connect veterans with employment opportunities, health care information, and other services.
