Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) today released the following statement marking the 8th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks:
“On the eighth anniversary of the attacks of September 11th, all our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those innocent Americans who lost their lives; with our police, fire, EMT, and rescue workers, who risk so much this and every day; and with the men and women of the United States military, who serve with dedication and valor at home and around the world. As a new Senator I think particularly of the passengers of Flight 93 whose spontaneous heroism likely saved our Capitol Building. I also remember the unifying spirit that brought Americans together as one nation following the attack. That sense of community and cooperation has defined America throughout our history and will continue to bring us through the greatest of challenges.
“Today, as we remember the heroism and sacrifice of so many on September 11th and after, we honor those who gave so much to protect what is great about this country.”
