Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse today released the following statement regarding the passage of the Intelligence Authorization bill. The measure was passed by the Senate on Monday and by the House yesterday, sending the bill to the president.
“The Intelligence Authorization bill passed this week by the House and Senate will strengthen our intelligence community and improve Congressional oversight over intelligence activities. Specifically, the bill expands the requirement for notifying Congress about sensitive programs, which is a welcome step towards greater transparency and accountability.
“I was especially pleased to work with Chairman Feinstein and Vice Chairman Bond and my colleagues on the Intelligence Committee on provisions that will enhance oversight of our nation’s efforts to combat cyber threats, which are among the greatest unmet national security vulnerabilities facing the country. This legislation improves the tools at our disposal to protect the American people.”
Whitehouse is a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and served as chairman of the Cyber Task Force.
