Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse today applauded the Build Back Better Act released today, citing $1.85 trillion in job-creating investments that will make a difference in the lives of everyday Rhode Island families. Whitehouse issued the following statement:
“Rhode Islanders will quickly see real improvements in their lives once Democrats pass the Build Back Better Act. Our bill will:
- Support working parents and kids by providing free universal preschool, preserving the recently expanded Child Tax Credit, and increasing the size of a Pell Grant;
- Lower health care costs across the board, including high-quality home care and an expansion of Medicare to cover hearing aids for seniors;
- Make investments in clean energy and other pollution reduction measures, which we are still working to improve, to leave a safer planet to our children and grandchildren; and
- Ease the cost of living with historic investments in affordable housing.
“This will be paid for by ensuring the very wealthiest Americans and large corporations contribute a fairer share. I have worked hard to ensure this measure is a very big deal for Rhode Island with the power to create good jobs and give middle class families a fair shot at the American Dream, all while leading the way to a safer future for our planet. I look forward to working with the President and my Democratic colleagues to make it law.”
