Providence, RI – On the heels of the release of the Inspector General report on the CIA’s interrogation program, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) applauded the appointment of John Durham to conduct a preliminary review into whether federal laws were violated in connection with the interrogation of certain detainees.
“This is clearly a significant issue, and I applaud Attorney General Holder’s move to conduct a preliminary review into the interrogations conducted by the CIA,” Whitehouse said. “Holder has given this issue the consideration it deserves, and I am confident that the rule of law, which was so blatantly ignored during the Bush Administration, will be vindicated.”
“John Durham is an experienced prosecutor, whom I am confident will follow where the facts lead. While it is premature to speculate on what will come of this investigation, the mere fact that he has been appointed will help ensure that this sorry episode in American history is never repeated,” Whitehouse concluded.
