Washington, DC – With Hurricane Irene currently making its way up the east coast and threatening to affect New England this weekend, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse today released the following statement urging all Rhode Islanders to take precautions and prepare for the storm:
“While I sincerely hope that Hurricane Irene passes by our state and spares any significant damage, Rhode Islanders can help limit the effects of this storm by taking steps now to prepare. This storm could bring intense winds, heavy rains, and a potential storm surge at our coasts that could lead to flooding, downed trees, and lost power. As we watch the progress of this storm, I urge all Rhode Islanders to take appropriate steps to protect themselves, and to help your friends and neighbors do the same.”
Anyone with questions about how to prepare, or how to deal with the potential aftermath of a severe storm, can visit Whitehouse’s hurricane preparedness web page at www.whitehouse.senate.gov/HurricaneIrene.
