Providence, RI – Today, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse announced the nomination of four Rhode Islanders for consideration to the United States Service Academies.
Whitehouse has nominated Liam Rial of North Kingstown and Cori Sullivan of Tiverton to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Caroline Hamann of East Greenwich to the United States Military Academy at West Point, and Mauricio Agudelo of Pawtucket to the Unites States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs.
“I commend these four students for choosing to follow in the footsteps of our honorable servicemen and women, who every day make great sacrifices to protect this great nation,” said U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. “The United States Service Academies train our next generation of leaders, and these four students have demonstrated a commitment to service that makes them excellent candidates for admission. I’m proud to have the privilege as a member of Congress to nominate them for consideration.”
Members of Congress are allowed to nominate a limited number of candidates to the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy, and the U.S. Air Force Academy. In addition to other eligibility criteria, Senator Whitehouse seeks to nominate applicants who have demonstrated leadership qualities, strong academic performance, and proven athletic ability. The United States Service Academies offer young people a unique opportunity to obtain a first-class education and subsequently serve our country upon graduation as commissioned officers in the United States Military.
Nomination by a Member of Congress does not guarantee an appointment or an offer of admission.
