Washington, DC – Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, released the following statement on the U.S Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit’s decision striking down the Trump administration’s “Affordable Clean Energy” (ACE) rule:
“The DC Circuit’s decision recognized the Trump administration’s new rule for what it was: a scam. Trump’s polluter toadies at the EPA never meant to replace the Clean Power Plan with something effective; they ginned up a do-nothing replacement that forced the EPA to allow fossil fuel companies to keep on polluting. It was a ploy from day one.
“Striking down this rule removes a serious obstacle for the incoming Biden administration. Now, the president-elect and his team have a chance to write their own ambitious and durable new rule. I’m confident they will seize that chance.”
