Whitehouse Takes Helm of Judiciary and Finance Subcommittees

In 117th Congress, Whitehouse will lead Judiciary Subcommittee on Federal Courts, Oversight, Agency Action, and Federal Rights; Finance Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) today announced that he has been selected to serve as Chairman of both the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Federal Courts, Oversight, Agency Action, and Federal Rights and the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight for the 117th Congress.

“Rhode Islanders’ interests will be front and center as I set the agendas for key subcommittees on the Senate Judiciary and Finance Committees,” said Whitehouse. “With gavels in hand, I look forward to exploring important issues, including the role of dark money in our politics and courts, the prospect of combatting climate change by making polluters pay, and restoring fairness to our tax laws and undoing the influence of special interests.”

The Judiciary Subcommittee on Federal Courts, Oversight, Agency Action, and Federal Rights handles matters related to the administration of federal courts and legal reform. Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) will serve as Ranking Member.

The Finance Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight has jurisdiction over the nation’s tax laws and the Internal Revenue Service. Senator John Thune (R-SD) will serve as the ranking Republican on the subcommittee.

Whitehouse also serves on the Budget Committee and the Environment and Public Works Committee.
