Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, today applauded the Senate’s bipartisan vote to proceed to consideration of a major investment in upgrading the nation’s infrastructure.
“I’ve long been a champion for upgrading Rhode Island’s highways, bridges, and water infrastructure, and creating good jobs and growing our economy in the process. Enough Republicans joined us in support of those priorities tonight that the bipartisan infrastructure package could start to move forward,” said Whitehouse. “While there are some notable climate elements in the package – particularly investments in EV charging stations, transmission lines to carry clean energy, and mass transit – significantly more needs to be done. I am working hard to ensure that the other piece of the infrastructure package moving on the reconciliation track will do heavy lifting in our race against climate change.”
