Providence, RI – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) released the following statement applauding the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) “click-to-cancel” rule, which will make it easier for Rhode Islanders to end recurring monthly subscriptions and memberships. The FTC passed the final rule yesterday in a 3 to 2 vote.
“It’s easy to sign up for services and memberships at the press of a button, but too often companies make canceling those subscriptions burdensome, confusing, and costly,” said Whitehouse. “This is a smart new rule from the FTC that will make it as easy for consumers to opt out of monthly subscriptions as it was to enroll in the first place. It’s another example of the Biden administration taking on big corporations to make life easier for Rhode Island consumers.”
